A heavy amount of our research was based on the effects of visual imagery on the mind and body, to help players engage with their bodies and calm the mind. This consisted of looking into motion, rhythm and colour psychology. Taking this into consideration, we were able to finalise three final possible art styles and a chosen colour scheme.

Research to support these decisions will be linked at the bottom of this page.

The purpose of Visuals in our project

The purpose of our visual design is to engage, immerse and appeal to users as well as affect them both physically and emotionally. Throughout our research, we both established ways to do this through particular colour, shapes and motion. We learned that the effects of slow and gentle movements can decrease heart rate and steady breathing, which relates closely to our essential experience. In our project, we intend to design our assets with this in mind and have identified three suitable ways to do so. This information will help us to build our own ‘Art Bible’ which we can use next Semester to guide our art development.

For our Immersive safe space, we should be designing an environment suitable for a 360 degree environment, as well interactive assets and animations which we aim to identify next Semester. This must be of a high quality and suit the dimensions of the space. (Cylinder - 2.1mx18.65m) As for our reflective application, this must consist of a clean and intuitive User Interface.

Next Semester, we intend to investigate our three options of art style for the space, through the means of testing and evaluation to identify the most effective option.
